VIX “Fear Index” Hits 6-Year Low, Markets Flat, TSX Hit by Commodities Sell-off

US Markets were flat for the day with Dow Jones up 0.04%, NASDAQ down 0.09% and S&P 500 up 0.27%. Big mover in North America was the Canadian TSX Composite index which fell 1.02% as all major commodities such as gold, silver, copper and petroleum fell in price.

The VIX or volatility index, often referred to as the “fear index” fell to a six year low with the Futures ETN (Ticker VXX) hitting a low of $20.77 on the day. Notice volume increasing significantly in recent months.
